Yoga

Here at the WCCSD we have martial artists with varied experience, both in styles of martial arts and lengths of training time. It is always a mixed pleasure to have the opportunity to train in and be humbled by a new discipline, as was the case on June 12th when Bethany Crawley, of Lotus Yoga in Riverside, taught a two hour seminar “Introduction to Yoga”.

The seminar included history, philosophy and physical skills of the Vinyasa school of yoga. Ms. Crawley’s knowledge and skill are of the highest level and from the beginning to the end she held our attention and respect. Many of us had only a thin academic understanding of yoga before this seminar but, after we finished on Saturday a new world had been open to us.

One of the most interesting things about the practice of yoga is its similarity to our martial arts practices. The fact that yoga’s main focus is to strengthen the bond or yoke between you and the great universal, which goes by many names from Qi to God. Through the practice of focused breathing and physical movement this bond is strengthened and the self is developed; a perfect fit for the WCCSD.

If you are interested in experiencing yoga let us recommend the Lotus Yoga school located at the corner of Stockton and Myra in Riverside. You can get more information by visiting their web site www.lotusyogajax.com

Again we would like to express our deep thanks to Bethany Crawley for being our teacher and introducing us to the art and path of yoga. We are honored and pleased to call Bethany and Lotus Yoga friends of the school.
